ELOPEMENT. - Between 6 and 7 o'clock on Wednesday morning last, a carriage and
four, containing two ladies and a gentleman, galloped up to the Bush Inn, in
this city, where fresh horses were ordered immediately, for that elysium of
lovers, Gretna-green. They did not alight, but proceeded immediately on the
wings of love to the borders, where the two were made one, for better or worse.
They returned to Carlisle again by noon, and the circumstance having been
bruited, some anxiety was manifested to catch a glimpse of the bride, who, we
understand, was very beautiful. On inquiry we learned that the gentleman's name
is SKELTON, and that he is a manufacturer of Leeds, but the name of his fair
companion remains a secret. They started for Keswick in a chaise and four, there
to spend the commencement of their honey-moon. - Carlisle Patriot.
