11 Sept 1837 Drowned in Lake Windermere Print E-mail
On Friday Mr. C. MILLS, a young gentleman from London, who had been enjoying the
lake scenery for a few weeks, hired a boat on the Windermere, at Ambleside.
Having made himself very hot by rowing, he let his oar slip out of his hand, and
it floated some short distance from the boat. He then undressed and got into the
lake to swim after it, but the sudden effects of the cold water on the lower
part of his body drove the blood up to his head, and he sank to rise no more. -
