Carlisle and its vicinity was visited on Tuesday last by a severe storm; all the
rivers in the neighbourhood swelled to a great extent, and occasioned
considerable damage to the buildings on their banks. The temporary wooden bridge
at Harraby was thrown on one side, and the coaches were obliged to go another
road. A subscription has since been set on foot to relieve the poor persons who
have suffered by the flood.
