The Times, Thursday, Jun 08, 1809; pg. 4; Issue 7694; col E

The weather has been uncommonly variable during the last fortnight, particularly
in the North of England. Sunday se'nnight was as warm as at Midsummer; and the
day following, it was as cold as at Christmas; and the Tuesday there was a heavy
fall of snow, so much so, that on Thursday last it was eighteen inches deep on
the open road, on Shap Fells, in Cumberland.
