A most diabolical attempt to poison a whole family, in the neighbourhood of
Carlisle, has been made. - On Wednesday morning, those of Mr. SINTON's
family, of Dalston-hall, who partook of breakfast, composed of boiled milk,
in which oat-meal had been infused, felt themselves taken very ill. After dinner,
the whole of the family, consisting of ten persons, was very seriously affected.
It was then naturally suspected they had taken poison, especially as part of the
meal which composed the pottage in the morning, had been used for thickening
the broth at dinner-time. A quantity of it was therefore sifted, and found to
contain a portion of arsenic. A woman, who had formerly been a servant in the
family, being suspected of committing the horrid crime, has been committed to
prison, and is now under further examination. - Happily, the family have all
recovered.
