CARLISLE  SATURDAY, MAY 11. - Grain, &c. - The supply of wheat in the market
this morning was more liberal than last week, and a reduction from 6d to 1s per
bushel below our former quotations was the consequence. Oats and barley were
also better supplied, but they were firm at the prices of this day week. We
noticed a few bags of peas and beans, but none were disposed of. - Provisions,
&c. - The potato market contained an average quantity, which sold at former
rates, viz., fourpence and fourpence-halfpenny per stone. Butter and eggs were
very plentiful in the market, and were disposed of, the former at from 9d to 10d
per lb, the latter 14 and 15 for 6d. The green market was overstocked with
rhubarb, which sold freely at three-halfpence for two stalks. There was likewise
a good stock of other vegetables, which sold according to their respective
qualities. The butcher market displayed a quantity of prime beef, mutton, and
veal, which sold readily, and before evening closed, all had disappeared. For
prices, see table below. The pig market did not contain so many live stock as
this day week; but good sales were effected at prices equal to former rates. -
In the poultry market the supply was small. Cocks sold at from 1s 3d to 1s 6d;
hens, 1s to 1s 3d; chickens, from 8d to 1s a piece. The fish market contained a
large supply of salmon, which sold at from 10d to 1s per lb; sea trout, 9d;
other fish at nominal prices.

WEDNESDAY, May 15. - Our market this morning was well stocked with potatoes,
which sold at Saturday's prices, viz, 4d and 5d per stone. The butter and egg
market was moderately supplied. Butter sold from 9d to 10½d per lb; eggs 14 for
6d. Nothing worthy of notice in the fish market.
