A very fatal instance of the ravages sometimes committed by the small-pox, has
occurred within the last eight days, at Wigton, in Cumberland. Mrs. KNUBLEY,
wife of Edward KNUBLEY, Esq. and three of their children were seized with the
disorder; Mrs. KNUBLEY was, at the time, far advanced in her pregnancy. Whether
her illness accelerated the birth, in any considerable degree, we have not
heard, but she was delivered of a female child, whilst in a dangerous stage of
the disorder. The infant expired soon after the birth; that circumstance was
followed by the death of two of the other children; and Mrs. KNUBLEY died on
Sunday morning. This calamity, it is necessary to observe, includes all the
family, except the father and one child, a boy, who is now out of danger; and,
except for this last circumstance, one can hardly suppose a scene of domestic
distress more deplorable than that in which the unhappy husband and parent is
involved; a situation too painful to the ordinary feelings of humanity to be
farther expatiated on!
