The Rev. Samuel DENT, of Bridgetown, in Barbadoes, (a native of Whitehaven), has
discovered the veritable Nankeen Dye, which has so long been the object of
enquiry. Mr. DENT has dyed a piece of cloth of about thirty yards in the
presence of the Society of Arts, in Barbadoes; it was afterwards washed in
mineral and vegetable acids, without injuring the colour in the least, but on
the contrary, it was rather improved by the mineral wash. This discovery, it is
hoped, will be the means of enabling the trade of this country to produce
nankeen equal in colour, and, it will not be doubted, superior in quality to the
India nankeen. The perfection of this colour is the result of several
experiments, and the truth and reality of the dye is now fully and truly
ascertained.
