1787 CARLISLE ASSIZES.

Wednesday se'nnight the assizes at Carlisle ended at the Crown-end, when judgment was given as follows, viz.

JOHN BARRAS for breaking jail and knocking down the turnkey..........Guilty.........Death.

ANDREW WALKER,  JANE WALKER,  and  JANE MACMULLEN, for stealing callicoes, &c.......the two former to be imprisoned one week, and then discharged;
the last to be imprisoned three months in the house of correction.

MARGARET KEITH, for pocket-picking, to be imprisoned eight months.

JANE DAVENPORT, for stealing a silver creamjug, the property of WILLIAM DIXON, of Penrith, to be imprisoned twelve months.

JANE MAXWELL, for stealing nine pounds in money, to be kept in the house of correction six months.

The other prisoners were all acquitted.
