15 July 1843 Ullswater Fisheries Print E-mail

Several paragraphs have recently appeared in our own, and other provincial
journals, as well as in more than one metropolitan newspaper, complaining of
the mode in which the fisheries in the lake of Ullswater are at present
conducted, but we have just ascertained that the complaints, which professed
to be made by most respectable parties, were deliberate forgeries, and
wholly without foundation.  The fisheries are principally in the hands of
the gentlemen residing in the vicinity of the lake, who afford the fair
angler the most liberal leave, while they carefully preserve the water.  We
have set enquiries on foot, which we trust may lead to the discovery of the
author of these forgeries, who has, no doubt, his own reasons for his
dishonest conduct.
