Shire Hall, Appleby

(Before the Rev. J. Milner, and the Rev. T.Bellas)

Thomas Robinson, of Scalebeck, in the parish of Asby, appeared to answerto a charge for non-payment of tithes, due to William Thwaites, of Appleby, as one of the sequestrators of the tithes, &c., of the Rectory of Asby aforesaid.  On complaint being made, the defendant said that he would pay as soon as the necessary money came into his hands.  In consequence of which, it was suggested, and agreed to by the parties, that the case should be adjourned till Saturday, the 22nd instant.  If the amount due, be not paid on, or before that time, an order for payment then will be made on Robinson; and proceedings taken accordingly.  The prisoner John Dover, convicted and sentenced, last sessions, to twelve calendar months; imprisonment in Appleby gaol, obtained leave on Saturday last, from one of the magistrates of this county, to work at his trade as shoemaker.

_______________

Owing to the bad state of the streets of Appleby, by the shrinking of the
pavement, the Corporation have come to a resolution to Macadamize a part of
Boroughgate, which will be a great improvement to the town.
