On Sunday night under the auspices of the Moresby Park Colliery Band aconcert was held in the Miner’s Welfare Hall at Moresby Parks. There was a good attendance presided over by Mr. W. C. SUMNER of Tivoli, who said the band intended organizing a series of concerts with the object of creating interest in the band and raising funds for its upkeep. The following was the programme: - Marches and selections by the band, “Pathfinder,” “Tancredi,” and “Memories of Britain.” Songs, Mr. T. VICKERS, “If I may come to you,” and “When the Moon comes over the mountain.” Duet, Miss. DICKINSON and Mr. J. SMITHAM, “The old rustic bridge by the mill. Songs, Mr. J. JAMES, “My hope,” and “Mate o’ mine.” Songs, Mr. I. GILL, “Vale” and “Mary of Argyle.” Cornet solo, Mr. T. FITZSIMMONS “Triple Tongue Polka,” and “Red Cap.” Song with the harmonizing chorus by the band, Mr. G. KIRKBY, “The Bells of St. Mary’s.” Recitations, Mr. T. VICKERS, “Old Sam,” “Remembrance” (own composition in memory of the fallen) and “Three French Maidens.” On the motion of Mr. T. ROBINSON a vote of thanks was accorded to the chairman and artists. Mr. SUMNER responding. The band was under the conductorship of Mr. Geo. KIRKBY. Mr. SMITHAM was the accompanist and Messrs. I. STEPHENS, J. SIMPSON and J. O’CONNOR were the stewards, with Mr. J. SMITHAM, secretary. Admission was by a collection inside and the proceeds are to be devoted to the band funds. The proceedings terminated with the band playing, as a quartet the hymn “Abide with me,” the audience singing the last verse. |
