IF THE DISARMAMENT
CONFERENCE  FAILS.
______

EGREMONT RECTOR’S PROPHECY.

Reference to the forthcoming disarmament Conference was made by  the Rector
of Egremont, the Rev. I. EARNSHAW, at a special service at St. Mary’s  Parish
Church on Sunday.

The Rector expressed the hope that England would do her share towards
universal disarmament. On the outcome of the conference, he said, rested the  fate
of the world. A successful conclusion would ensure world-wide prosperity  and
the assurance of a lasting peace which all humanity desired, but should the
conference fail, the world would, in a very short time be embroiled in a
warfare  far more terrible than the war of 1924-18.

“God helps those who help themselves, and God will help mankind, if  mankind
will help itself.” “War and thoughts of war are far too ingrained in  human
nature for the accomplishment of universal peace at one stroke, but much  can
be done by prayer,” were passages in a stirring, sincere address. He asked
all present to pray for the success of the World Disarmament Conference.

The roll of those of the parish who fell in the Great War was read  from the
pulpit, and the reading was followed by the singing of the hymn, “O,  Valiant
Hearts.”
