A very successful “mixed guest” night was held in the Conservative Hall on Thursday, when a company of 60 was present. During the evening a presentation of an electric reading lamp was made to Padre J. DAVIDSON by Padre P. R. PRICE, on behalf of the members, on occasion of his leaving Cockermouth for Millom. A substantial supper was provided, preceded by a talk on Toc H by Padre TURNER, and a short whist drive. The winners of the prizes were: - Miss. A. CHICKEN Mrs. J. W. MALLINSON Mrs. STRICKLAND (consolation) G. BREWSHER H. O. WOOD B. E. JONES, (consolation). A tropical song; composed and sung by William HOLMES, and accompanied by J. W. MALLINSON, was effectively rendered, and the community singing was an enjoyable feature. The proceedings terminated with the singing of “Good night Ladies,” and “ Auld Lang Syne.” Claud AITKEN (pilot) proved an efficient chairman. |
