SOCIAL AT  BASSENTHWAITE.
______

A social took place on Friday night in the Parish Rooms organized  by the Vicar, the Rev. W. ILIFFE, as a slight recognition of the voluntary work  done by a number of farm hands, their masters and others in repairing the road  to the Parish Church.

Invitations were also extended to the Church  Choir, Sunday  School teachers and other church workers. There was an attendance of 50. The Preparation of the supper was entrusted to Mrs. BROWN, of the Village Stores, and a creditable spread was provided. After supper Mr. ILIFFE addressed the  gathering and said how proud he was of the splendid response that had been given  to his appeal for help to make up the road to their beautiful old church.  Everyone had hard and cheerfully and the road now only needed a few  finishing touches to make it a credit to the parish, and he hoped a better  attendance at church. He complimented Mrs. BROWN for the splendid supper she had  provided and he was sure they had all enjoyed it.
Songs were given by: -

Miss. I. CLARK

Mr. J. NANSON

Mr. T. HAUGHIN

Mr. LOAN

Mr. F. MARTIN

Monologue, Mr. E. BARROW

Dancing was indulged in, the musicians being Mrs. LOAN, Miss. BROWN  and Miss. M. NICHOLSON. A vote of thanks to Mr. ILIFFE proposed by Mr. F.  THOMPSON was enthusiastically given. A delightful evening concluded with the  singing of “God Save the King.”
