KESWICK

We have to announce the death of this respected medical practitioner, who
expired on Tuesday morning last, aged 44. He had been in delicate health for
a month or two past, and so lately as Carlisle Assizes was present as a
witness in a trial, where a young woman was indicted for concealment of the
birth of her infant. The journey, in such inclement weather, and the
lingering about the exposed purlieus of the Court-house till the case was
called on, tended to increase symptoms of his malady, which unhappily came
to a fatal termination soon after his return to Keswick. The deceased
gentleman, who was a native of Carlisle, and brother to the Rev. W. J.
Tweddle, Weslyan minister, had a very extensive practice in Keswick, where
he settled about 21 years ago. Not only for his curative skill, but for his
pleasant affable manners, he was a general favourite in the town of his
adoption, where many patients and friends will regret his premature decease.

COCKERMOUTH BOARD OF GUARDIANS
THE DEATH OF DR TWEDDLE
The Chairman said he had to announce the death of Dr Tweddle, the medical
officer of the Board for the Keswick district. He was personally acquainted
with Dr Tweddle, but he believed the district he served was very well
satisfied indeed with him as a medical practitioner. He had passed from
amongst them very hurriedly. He believed that within a few days before his
death he was on active duty. He had been a medical officer of the Board
since September, 1863. In consequence of his death, the Board would be under
the necessity of filling up the vacancy caused, and that would have to be
done as early as possible - he thought probably that day fortnight would be
advisable to be fixed to determine the matter. - On the motion of Mr Rook,
seconded by Mr Walker, this was agreed to.
