14 Feb. 1959 Special Times for Redundant Miners Print E-mail
The Ministry of Labour made special arrangements for  dealing with mine
workers who will become redundant following the closure of the  Clifton and
Gillhead pits.

Mr. R. S. CARRUTHERS, manager of the Employment  Exchange at Workington, has
announced that, together with the managers of the  Aspatria, Cockermouth and
Maryport Exchanges, he has reached an agreement with  the N. C. B. and the N.
U. M. concerning these  arrangements.

On Friday, February 20, each redundant worker will be  given two forms by the
N. C. B. official, which the worker should complete and  present at the time
when he makes his claim for unemployment insurance benefit.  The place and
time at which each worker should make his claim will be decided on  his place of
residence, and special times have been arranged. These can be  ascertained at
the Labour Exchanges.
