C. M. S. APPLICATION WITHDRAWN. An application from the Cumberland Motor Services Ltd. For the variation for some local Workington services has been withdrawn. It would have been heard at Carlisle yesterday (Wednesday). After consultations with Workington Corporation representatives the Company is preparing an alternate application to be heard later. ___________________ Carlisle County Council is to spend more than a million pounds on new schools in the next five years. __________________ QUAKER OATS FACTORY. _____ FIRE EXTINGUISHED BY EMPLOYEES. Answering a predetermined call, two fire appliances from Whitehaven, one from Workington and one from Egremont closed up at the Quaker Oats factory, Whitehaven, at 9-5 a.m. on Wednesday, but found that the outbreak had been extinguished by employees. It involved incoming electric cable at the circuit house at the rear of the premises, and damage was negligible. Station Officer W. E. FOSTER was in charge. |
