DIED IN INN George SUART, 47, unemployed of 50 St. Helen Street, Cockermouth, collapsed and died in the Sun Inn, Market Place, Cockermouth, on Friday during lunch hour. Death was from natural causes. _______________ SUDDEN DEATH AT WORKINGTON. At the age of 52 the death occurred suddenly last week of Mrs. Margaret MARTIN, of Peter Street, Workington. The wife of Mr. William H. MARTIN, a well-known dairyman, Mrs. MARTIN was the sister of a former Mayoress of Workington, Mrs. E. BARRACLOUGH. Another sister, Miss. McCUTCHEON, is well-known for her work as a district nurse. Mr. MARTIN survives his wife. There are no children. ______________ PUPILS SANG AT HIS FUNERAL Mr. Stephen JOHNSTON, who died at Meadow View Hospital, Whitehaven, was
buried in Salterbeck Cemetery on Saturday. The interment was preceded by a choral service before a large congregation. This was conducted by Canon J. R. CROFT assisted by the Rev. E. J. BURNS with a full choir attendance. Solos was rendered by Mrs. Elizabeth CAMERON and Mrs. Eleanor ELLIOT, two of Mr. JOHNSTON’s former pupils. Floral tributes were received from the staff and pupils of Newlands School, where Mr. JOHNSTON taught, and former colleagues of the National Union of Teachers and the Brethren of Eden Lodge. |
