Very often the edges of lawns and grass paths are the places that  are worn
and untidy. If the turf is not frozen, this is a good time to tackle  any
repairs. Worn patches can also be attended to now, and the simplest way is  to use
turf lifted from a more secluded, less noticeable part of the  garden.

The places from which you have used the turf can then be forked  over and
raked to a fine tilth ready to be re-sown in April.
