Statistics which may be useful to Broughton villagers  is ever they fall into
the quiz craze are that the acreage of their parish is  1,360, it has 473
houses, a population of 1,334, 128 council houses, 421 houses  sewered, and 473
connected to public water mains and where refuse is  collected.

These facts were given by Mr. K. A. ROBSON (R. D. C.  clerk) at a public
inquiry this week into the acquisition of a site for more  council houses.
Conducting the inquiry, Mr. R. H. EVANS, of London, found the  same dense fog on
Wednesday as experienced day and night in the capital for  three weeks, and was
surprised to learn that Cumberland on successive days  previous to Wednesday
enjoyed many hours of sunshine.
