WORKINGTON.-MONDAY.

The magistrates had before them a case of indecent assault committed on a girl, aged 12 years, on Saturday night, by a man named John M'NALLY, iron worker, at the West Cumberland Iron works, and who lived with the girl's uncle in King Street, Workington.- M'NALLY was committed to Carlisle gaol for three months.

WEDNESDAY.

POACHING.-William KELLY and John SEWELL, butchers were charged at the instance of William BACON, (unreadable) for Mr. CURWEN, with having been found poaching at Wythemoor Pit.  They were seen taking a hare out of a trap.-Defendants were each ordered to pay 30s including costs.

CLAIM FOR WAGES.-Henry GRAVE, a young man, a butcher, made a claim upon Joseph PEARCE, butcher, Workington, for 5l , for wrongful dismissal.-Mr. PAISLEY appeared for the complainant, and stated that complainant was hired at Whitsuntine last, at 5l for the half-year.   Something annoyed Mrs. PEARCE on the 30th of July, and the defendant ordered him to leave.   He now sought to recover damages for wrongful dismissal.-For the defence, Mrs. PEARCE stated that on the day named she asked the complainant to go and milk the cattle, and he refused.-Bench ordered defendant to pay the lad's wages
up to the time he left-2 l, and 6s costs.

STEALING TURNIPS AT NORTH SIDE.- Henry DUNN and Samuel DUNNIGAN, two young lads, living at North Side, were each charged with stealing turnips.-Joseph COWMAN, watchman for the West Cumberland Iron and Steel Company, stated that they had been much annoyed lately by boys getting into a field belonging to the Company; and on Sunday he found these two boys.-The lads were ordered to pay 12s 6d each, including costs.
