WHITEHAVEN.-MONDAY. (Before C. FISHER, Esq., and H. JEFFERSON, Esq.) LARCENIES.-Mary BENNETT, an old delinquent, was committed for trial at Quarter Sessions for stealing an apron at Bransty Station on the 5 th inst.- Mary THOMPSON was sent to gaol for a fortnight for stealing a pair of boots at Egremont on the 8th inst.-A charge of theft against a boy named Francis SATTERTHWAITE was adjourned. _________________ WHITEHAVEN TRUSTEES.-TUESDAY. Mr. MUSGRAVE presided; only nine trustees were present-two short of a quorum for transacting harbour business. Mr. ATTER asked if it would not be possible to take some means to have the business of the Board carried out? Meeting had been called again and again to sign bonds, but they could not be signed yet. He suggested that a mandamus be applied for to compel the trustees to sign the bonds. Mr. HODGSON agreed with this proposal, and the CHAIRMAN made a long speech attacking the News for what he called libelous conduct. Mr. ATTER moved- "That the opinion of the solicitors of the Trust be taken as to the advisability of applying for a writ of mandamus to compel members of the Board to sign cheques and bonds, and to perform other administrative duties, to carry out resolutions legally agreed to by a majority of the Board. That the said solicitors be asked to advise whether certain articles in the Whitehaven News, affecting the credit and finances of the Trust, are actionable or otherwise."-Mr. GRAHAM seconded the motion, which was carried. The other business was confirmed to the signing of some cheques, and to a discussion on some matters relating to the Market House.
