On Friday, the 30th ult., a serious accident occurred to a young gentleman, who was spending his holidays with his brother-in-law, Mr. HALL, of 40 Aglionby Street, Carlisle. On the day above named, Mr. HALL and party drove to the Nunnery to have a roam though the walks. After luncheon Master BARTLETT and his brother had a climbing match up some treesnear the summer-house. The younger brother, aged 15 years, succeeded in nearly reaching the top of the tree when the branch on which he was standing gave way, and he precipitated a distance of 85 feet, falling on the rocks below. He was at once conveyed to the Nunnery, and Dr. DUDLEY of
Kirksowald sent for. On examining the young gentleman, he found him suffering from concussion of the brain, fracture of the left arm above the elbow, and a wound on the left side of the head. Dr. DUDLEY at once set the fracture and dressed the head, and under his treatment, and Mrs. NICHOLSON'S kindness, the patient progressed so favourably that he was able to be removed to his brother-in-law's house in Carlisle last Friday, one week from the date of the accident. |
