OLD ENGLAND FOREVER !!!! WHEREAS JOSEPH LANCASTER, and GEORGE and JAMES WESTGARTH, did Publicly Challenge 'All England' to produce Three Wallers, to make Work equal to theirs, in all the Properties of Good Workmanship, for a Wager of any Sum from One Hundred to Five Hundred Pounds. THIS IS TO GIVE NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC; That the said Challenge was accepted the Day after Publication, By NICHOLSON & CO. OF ENGLAND, And a Letter was immediately addressed to MR. JOSEPH LANCASTER; which was safely delivered at his own House, desiring him to attend at the House of JAMES COWARD, Innkeeper at Santon Bridge, at Ten o'Clock in the Forenoon of Saturday the 1st of January, 1814, - and he would there find a Person ready to Stake the Wager against him; - but to the utmost Surprise of all present, neither he nor his Friends presented themselves. - NICHOLSON & CO.s Money was counted down between Eleven and Twelve o'Clock, and he anxiously waited all Day for his Antagonist; but they never appeared, THESE ARE THE MEN, WHO DECLARED THEY WERE "ANXIOUS FOR A COMPETITION" THIS IS TO GIVE FURTHER NOTICE, That as They have entirely refused to stand to the Challenge they first made, we do not think it worth our while to take Notice of any further Challenge or Publication whatsoever. - But as they have shewn, by their Nonappearance, that they are not qualified to enter the Lists against NICHOLSON AND CO., we will propose them a Match more equal to their QUALIFICATIONS, viz. We will stake FIVE HUNDRED POUNDS against them, And our Champions shall be ISAAC BELL, Ravenglass, aged 84 Yrs. JOHN SHEPHERD, Drigg, 81-1/2 do, Wallers. Provided we can find a Third, of whom we can approve, of equal Age, Skill, and Experience, with the abovementioned, - And, we have no Doubt but these Venerable Veterans will soon convince these LANCASTERIAN RASCALLIONS AND PUFFERS, That they know how to make a WALL, not by throwing a Heap of Stone together, in such a Manner that the Foxes may find a Kennel within them, and the Sparrows fly through them; - but in that 'Solid and Firm' Manner which was practised in the Reign of our worthy KING STEPHEN. But wishing to do every Man entire Justice, we humbly recommend these Men to the PUBLIC, as Men who are 'well enough qualified to build a PRIVY or a PIG STY', provided they have a Diligent Overlooker !! NICHOLSON & CO. ENGLAND. We hope that a happy New Year it will be, All Tumults and Strife quickly cease, Sir; Since Lancaster's turn'd a base Coward, you see, And BUONAPARTE sues for a Peace, Sir.
