08 December 1899 World's Largest Locomotive

The largest locomotive in the world is now in use on the Illinois Railway in the United States.  The total heating surface is 3,500 square feet; the weight of the engine and tender in working order is 162 tons (of which the engine alone weighs 103 tons;)  the total length over buffers is 65 1/2 feet; and there are eight coupled driving wheels 4 ft. 9 in. in diameter. ....
