08 December 1899 Fatal Scalding at Annan |
|
|
On Tuesday morning a child of three years of age named Lizzie LUPTON, daughter of Richard LUPTON, fisherman, Nicholson Street, Annan, fell into a tub of boiling water as her mother was going to start washing. She was removed to the Cumberland Infirmary, where she died on Tuesday night. An inquest was held at the Infirmary on Wednesday evening before the City Coroner, MR. H. B. LONSDALE, when the jury, after hearing the mother's evidence, returned a verdict that death had been accidentally caused. The question was put by one of the jury as to why the child was not taken to Dumfries Infirmary, but it was explained that the train for Carlisle happened to suit best after the accident, and consequently the child was brought here by the doctor's advice.
