Stanwix Choral Society's Concert.

Last night the Stanwix Choral Society gave a performance in the new hall at the Board school of F. H. COWEN'S cantata "The Rose Maiden, : followed by a short miscellaneous programme.  The hall was crowded with an appreciative audience, and the performance was quite a success, being alike creditable to the Society and their conductor, MR. C. R. DOEG.  The chorus consisted of over sixty voices, the leadership of MR. H. HENDERSON. The soloists were MRS. WILSON, soprano; MISS LAURA ADAMSON, contralto; the REV. H.E.H. COOMBES, HOUGHTON,tenor; and MR. EDMUND TELFER, Ulverston, baritone.  A large part of the solos fell to the lot of MRS. WILSON, who was heard to the best advantage in :Bloom on, my roses,"  whilst MR. TELER'S most successful effort was the solo "Where gloomy pine trees rustle.:  MRS. WILSON and MR. TELFER were warmly applauded for the duet "Soon as the mountain summits."  The same lady and MR. COOMBES gave a very pleasing rendering of the duet "I know a rosebud shining."  MR. COOMBE'S best individual effort was the air "The sleep of even,"  his singing of which secured him the hearty applause of the audience; and MISS ADAMSON'S contribution, the scena entitled "Ask of you ruined castle,"  met with equal appreciation.

"Tis thy wedding morn" was the best sung chorus, and so persistent were the audience in their demand for an encore that a portion of it had to be repeated.  The performance of the cantata occupied until ten o'clock, and a miscellaneous programme filled up the rest of the evening.
