08 Dec. 1899 Queen's Gift to Soldiers Print E-mail

Our soldiers at the front will not get the Queen's chocolate by Christmas after all.  It was hoped they might receive it by the New Year, but it is now admitted that the middle of January is about the earliest date on which the Queen's gift can reach the soldiers.  The delay is not so much due to the time required to make the chocolate as to the time taken up in manufacturing the specially designed tins which her Majesty selected.  Competitive designs were invited, but the one selected has since been altered, and this alteration has caused some of the delay.
