The fourth sessional meeting of this Society was held on Wednesday in the Art Gallery, Tullie House.  MR. W. WRIGHT occupied the chair, and there was a good attendance.  A technical paper was read by MR. JOHN ROBSON "On the production of lantern slides from engravings, woodcuts, maps, &c."  In our day, he said, a demand had arisen for illustration by lantern slides of lectures upon scientific subjects, and such illustrations were principally in line-black and white.  This branch of photographic work had not been practiced much in Carlisle by either amateurs or professionals, and hence most of such work had to be done abroad.  He had given the subject much study experimentally for best results, and he gave the members of the Society the fruits of his experiments.  Thirty lantern slides representing various kinds of printed matter and illustrations were shown, and these were much admired by the audience for their perfect technique.
